Niji Kingsford
My fellow food blog lovers, I, Ben, have come up with the answer
to the tiresome question that enrages so many couples. That question defines
and often tests your relationships while seeming so harmless at first glance.
And that question is,
WHAT DO YOU WANT TO EAT?
Now usually I personally struggle with
this question as there are so many cuisines and choices, so many options and
alternatives but Niji has become my long-awaited answer. Niji is a beautiful restaurant
located in Kingsford with an amazing crew of chefs cooking authentic Japanese cuisine
with elegant lighting choices, mid-tier expensive food, and to die for popcorn
prawn. The exterior is rather simple but poses a sense of beauty.
Now onto the best part, the food. Me and my girlfriend Ella
shared 3 meals. We ended up ordering the Cooked Tuna Special, Vegetarian Udon
and the Popcorn Prawn. The service was impeccable, with after 10 seconds of
finishing our water it being refilled instantaneously, which seems so
insignificant but really was such a delight from other restaurants that leave
you stranded, in need of water the whole meal.
The Cooked Tuna Special is a tuna, avocado, and cucumber
roll topped with chili mayo, spicy crunch and ama-dare. The food was well
presented, had a fresh aroma and taste to it while being incredibly delicious. For
$14.50 for 8 rolls, it is more expensive than sushi trains but for the quality
of the meal it was defiantly worth it.
The Vegetarian Udon is made up of a vegetable tempura, bok
choy, wakame, bean sprouts, light soy broth and noodles. The vegetable tempura
was crispy, not to oily with a distinct flavour that when added with the broth
was a lovely taste. The noodles were perfectly cooked, didn’t overpower the
dish and meshed well with the other elements. For $13.50, the price is
relatively average for the industry, but the taste was unparalleled.
Lastly the popcorn prawn, the highlight of the dish. This
tempura prawn with chili mayo is for anyone and everyone, even those like me
who don’t like prawn. Each prawn has an element of crunch from the tempura that
when mixed with the spicy mayo makes it impossible to put the dish down.
Imagine popcorn chicken but spicy, tastier and prawn. For $20, it is rather expensive,
but the price is justified by the taste in my opinion.
To conclude, I would rate Niji a 9/10, the popcorn prawn is
a must try by all food lovers and I would heavily recommend Niji as the answer
to date nights, and the infamous question.
